My A/C contractor downsized me from our original contract for a 5 ton Guardian split unit to a 3 ton unit because he said the 5 ton was overkill.  Now I want to adjust the contract for the lessor cost of the 3 ton unit.  What is a reasonable difference in cost for the two units?

IT ALL DEPENDS IF DUCT WORK WAS INCLUDED ON YOUR INSTALLATION. THE PRICE COST DIFFERENCE DEPENDS ON THE NAME BRAND AND SEER RATING. A 12 SEER FOR EXAMPLE FROM A 3 TON TO A 5 TON ON CONDENSOR ONLY COULD BE $200 TO $600 DIFFERENCE.

The downsize was for both the condenser and heating unit from 5 ton to 3 ton. Ducting in installation are as previously in the contract.  I just would like to know the difference in the cost for the 3 ton heating unit and compressor from the 5 ton .

Thank you

B. Henick
